Meet Emily Barrieau
President
Meet Emily Barrieau
President
Emily is an artist, an aunt, a teacher, an entrepreneur, and a lifelong student. Working in Education for over twelve years, as both teacher and administrator. She grew up in Ladysmith, BC and moved South to Victoria in 2008. Emily received her BEd from UVic in 2013 and went on to gain experience in a variety of independent schools across the city. In 2019, she stepped into entrepreneurship, founding her own business and growing into her work as a thoughtful and dedicated business owner. Over the years, she has built a strong background in teaching, curriculum development, school administration, anthroposophy, and business operations.She spent two wonderful years working at the Waldorf school in Squamish. Before that, she supported the development of a small start-up school in Victoria and worked overseas in Mainland China, where she wrote a Ministry-approved Grade 10 ESL course. With her parents and siblings now all living in Victoria, it truly feels like home.

Mark McGivern
Vice President
Mark has been a teacher most of his life, living and working in places like in Nicaragua, Japan, Dubai and Toronto. He has a BA from Trent University. In 2002 Mark graduated from the Rudolf Steiner College of Canada as a Waldorf class teacher and taught middle grades for 6 years in Nelson, BC. More recently Mark wrote online courses for the Rudolf Steiner College and mentors students in their Foundations in Anthroposophy program. He recently co-crafted the College’s new teacher training program. He offers workshops to teachers and parents on the themes of social health and education, and anthroposophy. He is the communications manager for the Anthroposophical Society in Canada and publishes their yearly journal. Mark has a son and a daughter and lives in Victoria.

Lily Miller
Secretary
Lily holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Victoria and is a certified teacher in British Columbia. She has experience working in both the public school system and in various Montessori schools across the southern island. In recent years, she has felt called to Waldorf education and has begun taking steps towards completing her Waldorf teacher training. Lily is passionate about teaching. She believes in the education of the whole child and that learning is done best when head, heart, and hands are involved.

Lee Herrin
Treasurer
Lee has worked in management and leadership roles in both public sector and non-profit environments for over 25 years. Lee also has more than 20 years of experience serving on boards of directors including 15+ years chairing non-profits. He has a Masters Degree in Environmental Studies, and has previously taught at Royal Roads University as an Associate Faculty Member. Presently, he works as a consultant to non-profits and charities and has deep experience in strategic planning, business planning, and financial modelling. Lee was the President of Sunrise Education Society (that administers the Sunrise Waldorf School in Duncan, BC) from 2008 to 2015. His daughter attended the school for 10 years.
